Crews from Wokingham Road, Reading, and Wokingham were called to the incident in Lynwood Chase at about 1.30pm.
The flue pipe of an internal wood burner had caught fire after touching the burner, allowing the flames to travel through the pipe and outside.
The flames reached a shed and despite the house owner's best efforts of hosing the fire, the shed suffered serious smoke damage.
Firefighters spent about an hour putting the fire out before ensuring the wood burner was safe.
