The Rotary Club of Bracknell Rotary raised £1,000 for Help for Heroes – Scottish style.

It was a case of kilts and haggis at the Burns night fundraiser on Saturday at Sindlesham Court, Mole Road.

More than 100 people turned up, many in full Scottish attire, for a night of bagpipes and poetry to raise money for the military charity.

Among the guests were Rotary District Governor John Greening and his wife Joan, Sue and John Nike, an honorary member, and Tony Thomkins representing Help for Heroes in Berkshire with his wife Amanda.

Dave Donaldson, who organised the event, said: “I would have been happy with 80 but we had more than 100 people come. It was a great night. People are asking about next year.” Alan Vaughan, from the Reading Scottish Pipe Band, entertained crowds, and there was traditional Ceilidh dancing by Rotarian President Alan Davis. The meal consisted of haggis, Angus steak, and a traditional Scottish dessert.
