Bentalls in Princess Square welcomed hundreds of eager bargain hunters on Friday, with much of its stock being reduced by up to 30%.
As the day wore on the centre grew busier, with shops including WHSmith’s and Topshop experiencing heavy footfall despite 117m people in the UK logging on to retail websites from the comfort of their own homes.
Sue Highcazay, from Martin’s Heron, managed to grab herself three bags of goodies from Bentalls.
She said: “I am very happy with what I have got. Bentalls is a great place to get your Christmas bargains.”
Tony Byrne hit the shops with his two granchildren Lewis, 13, and Katie
He said: “We have picked up some good bargains. It is our first year doing post-Christmas shopping in Bracknell and we have been pleasantly surprised.
“We will be coming back and we are definitely looking forward to the coming years with the regeneration
Steve Elson, from Warfield, added: “I think I have managed to grab some bargains for both wife and husband. The Christmas customer service has been good and I am very pleased.”
Bentalls store director Craig Strugnell said that despite the ongoing regeneration work in the town centre disrupting trading levels, the store’s gala days in December had been particularly successful.
He said: “It has been a tough but successful year for Bentalls, with the disruption to the town as the regeneration starts, adding to an already difficult trading climate.
“We look forward with great excitement to seeing those plans coming to fruition over the coming months.
“Most of all, we are very fortunate to have a fantastic, dedicated team here in store, and they as usual have worked phenomenally hard to ensure that our customers have found what they were looking for, and left the store carrying another of our distinctive green bags.
“I am sure that the New Year will continue to be an immensely challenging, but enjoyable one for all of us.”
