A DYING mum is enjoying her final wish after flying out for a family holiday to Florida.

Mouth cancer sufferer Debbie Johnson, second right, flew out to Florida last Friday with her family, pictured, husband Lance Johnson and sons Josh, 18, and Jamie, seven, for a final family holiday. Her mother Jackie Correy is also pictured right.

Debbie Johnson was given permission by doctors to go on the four-week trip last Thursday, and flew out with sons Josh, 18, Jamie, seven, and husband Lance on Friday.

The 37-year-old, from Birch Hill, was given less than a year to live in June after being diagnosed with mouth cancer – leading to a huge fundraising effort from friends and family to grant her dying wish.

She said on Monday: “I’m having a great day with Jamie, Josh and Lance at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.”

The family will stay in a villa for two weeks after Andy and Pauline Jordan – who own the Pinewood Cafe, in Old Wokingham Road, Wokingham – donated their timeshare to the family.

Mrs Jordan said: “We didn’t know Debbie personally but she had an 18th birthday for her son in January – that’s the first time I met her.

“When I saw the story in the News it really upset me with the family having to go through this.

“We wanted to help and raised £1,000 for her. It’s great to see the hard work pay off and we’re really pleased they’ve done it.

“We hope they’re having a good time. It will be great to see the photos and see her coming back with the children reminiscing about the memories.”

Debbie’s mum, Jackie Corre, revealed it had been a close call as to whether she would be able to fly.

Speaking on Friday she said: “She wants to thank everyone who has raised money and she only got the all clear to go yesterday. It’s been very emotional and they spent all night packing.”

More than £10,000 was raised to help the family fly to America, covering flights, insurance and subsistence in Florida.

Any left over money will go to Debbie’s family to help with funeral plans.
