An underground cable at Keep Hatch Lane, Wokingham, was found to have third party damage at about 8.30am, causing the loss of power.
Southern Electric, which managees the network, confirmed that they had ‘re-routed and backfed’ power, restoring electricity to all but 450 homes.
They added that these homes are still without power as they are directly affected by the cable breach.
The high voltage cable, which carries either 11,000, was being attended to by a team of engineers who are currently at the site.
Hannah Gleave, from Southern Electric, said: "Because it's a high voltage cable we have engineers working as quickly and safely possible. The cable will need to be completely replaced which is why it's taking time."
Southern Electric apologised, but said they were confident power would be restored by this evening (Friday).
