Marei de Roy said she was clearing out the school’s former building in Sandy Lane, Bracknell, a few years ago when she made the discovery.
She said: “I found a portrait painted on canvas behind a cupboard. It is of a woman, probably in her 60s and is actually quite a good painting. In the bottom right hand corner are the initials A B. At the time I thought it might be fun to find out who the lady was, but I never did anything about it.
“But I’m retired now and found this painting again while cleaning up my own house. I have no idea how long the painting has been behind the cupboard, but it is in good condition.”
Marei, who lives in Woodley, said she believes the portrait could be of a local person and that the person or family may be pleased to have it back. The painting measures 40cm by 30cm.
She joked: “I am just hoping it is not painted by someone famous and so give away a fortune!”
