The demolition of buildings in Crossway and Broadway to make way for the redevelopment of Bracknell town centre's regeneration will start shortly and be completed by the end of November, according to regeneration bosses.

This comes after the discovery of asbestos delayed the start of the demolition of the shop units, which closed in May and June.

Buildings will start to come down at the end of September, with Broadway and Crossway being sealed off in preparation for this.

Work had been due to be completed by the end of October, but will now be finished by the end of November.

Signs around the town centre will help residents find their way around the new layout.

Helen Barnett, marketing manager for Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP), claims that over the next few weeks the internal stripping of all buildings, including the safe removal of asbestos, will be completed.

She said: "All hoardings should be in place by early September, to close the site off completely." Councillor Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: "The complete closure of Crossway and Broadway and the start of demolition is a visible sign of progress in the town's regeneration." After Broadway and Crossway are closed, residents will still be able to access Easthampstead House, Bracknell Library and the Police Station via a new pathway next to Bracknell Magistrates' Court.
