Bracknell may get new 'landmark' to replace the Bandstand

It was confirmed on Tuesday that the iconic sight will have to be demolished later this month - despite calls for it to be moved.
Helen Barnett, marketing manager at Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said suggestions of an alternative meeting point were welcome.
She said: "We will take note of things and listen. We need to get something that will fit in with the town centre.
"People can meet by the statue at the British Legion which won't go."
BRP and Bracknell Town Council added the way the bandstand was built means it will not be possible to move it to another site.
The top and the bottom of the bandstand are made of concrete and the metal framework would not survive any attempt to move it.
Ms Barnett reiterated BRP's desire to help groups who used the bandstand as a fundraising venue to find alternative places - most likely in Charles Square.
She said: "We understand that the bandstand holds fond memories for many people in the town. Unfortunately, it is just not possible to move it. We will be working with the town council to help groups find other locations for their activities."
The disappointment of some residents was echoed by Chris Turrell, leader of Bracknell Town Council, who said: "It will be sad to see the bandstand go.
"For nearly all of its life, it has provided an important venue for local groups and charities to publicise their activities and raise funds. From recent press coverage and contact with residents, it is clear there is support for providing a replacement in the regenerated town centre.
"But people want the regeneration to move ahead without delay.
"Bracknell Town Council remains strongly committed to local groups and will give them every assistance to continue their work in the town centre while construction work takes place."
The five metal plaques marking Bracknell's twinning with Opladen will be preserved after demolition, and handed over to Bracknell Twinning Association. A new place will be sought for them.
Organisations and charities can call Bracknell Town Council on 01344 420079 for information about other locations that can be utilised for collections and displays.
