THE number of jobless people signing on in Bracknell and Wokingham has dropped.

Figures released today (Wednesday) show the number of people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance in Wokingham dropped by 118 between February and March, with 1,320 people claiming, and Bracknell showed a fall by 37 from 1,634 to 1,597 in the same time period.

This amounts to 1.3% of the population of Wokingham and 2.1% of the population of Bracknell who are now claiming.

Figures also dropped in Reading by 54 to 3,641 between February and March, which is 3.4% of the working age population, while in Slough, the number of people claiming was down 69 to 3,485 - 3.7% of the working age population.

Across the South East, there were 138,029 claimants, down by 3,367.

Nationally, the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance last month was down 7,000 to 1.53 million, but unemployment rose by 70,000 to 2.56 million between December and February.
