Sunninghill and South Ascot ward councillor John Story has launched the bid to fight the proposed transfer of services away from the Ascot site.

Cllr Story is petitioning the Royal Borough to 'do everything in its power to fight NHS plans to cut services at Heatherwood Hospital and to fight for local health facilities to be maintained and enhanced across the borough, not cut, removed or centralised to other places'.

The petition is now available for signature on the council's website and is open to everyone who lives, works or studies in the Royal Borough.

Cllr Story said: "Local people are appalled by the recommendations for our hospital and I and my fellow councillors are determined to fight to save local services for local people.

"The petition to the council is a first step in securing public support. If we can collect 1,000 signatures we can request a special meeting of the council to discuss residents' very real concerns and ensure this important issue is not swept away."
