Regeneration will bring 2,500 jobs

THE regeneration of Bracknell town centre will create 2,500 jobs, developers have revealed. This comes after designs for the £200m development went on public display last week.

The new shops, including a Marks and Spencer store, plus restaurants and 12-screen Cineworld cinema are due to open in October 2015.

  I'm not sure where the figure of 2,500 new jobs come from but note it is being bandied about by the people selling this development. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the regeneration but looking at the posters wonder just how much the developers know about Bracknell. I visited the exhibition and saw the images of happy smiling families, blue skies, and people leisurely strolling about. The Bracknell I know is generally cold windswept streets where you are accosted by all sorts of folk blocking your path trying to sign you up to all manner of astounding offers. A Bracknell where obesemobiles rule the pavements and cyclists flout the signs because there is no-one to enforce the law. Given the vagaries of the British weather I can't help feeling a covered mall wouldn't have been a better option. What is proposed appears to be a very expensive coat of paint.
