A SUPERMARKET chain is providing residents with the perfect way to get rid of unwanted Christmas cards and turn them into cash for a good cause.

Sainsbury's stores across Bracknell and Wokingham - including those in Winnersh, Bagshot Road and Princess Square - all have special recycling bins, dedicated to taking Christmas cards.

Bins are located in the foyer at the front of each store and based on the volume of cards collected, Sainsbury's will make a donation to the Forest Stewardship Council when the collection ends next Tuesday.

Manager at the King Street Lane store in Winnersh, Ash Harrison, said: "We know that our customers care about the environment and reducing their impact on landfill so we're providing really simple and hassle-free ways for them to live more sustainably and recycle their Christmas-waste once the holidays are over."

Stores are also offering other recycling facilities including battery bins. In the past year, 21 million batteries have been recycled from in-store collections countrywide - equivalent to more than 50% of all the batteries it sold in that time.
