THE wait is over for young people opening their A-level results this morning (Thursday). For some, the envelope will have good news, but for those who are disappointed by their grades, youth advice service Connexions Berkshire is urging them, "Don't panic".

Sally Stimpson, an adviser from the organisation's Bracknell branch in Charles Square, said: "We would say to people, 'Don't panic'. There's lots of help available if you need it. If you've got any concerns, talk to your school or college or contact us if you do need any advice or support."

For people considering whether or not to go to university, Ms Stimpson said: "There are other options available and we can talk to people about the employment market, apprenticeships, voluntary work and other options."

She added: "The job situation - although obviously difficult - is perhaps not as bleak as people think and we can certainly give support to people if they are concerned about things."

Today (Thursday) is also the day Year 12 pupils receive AS-level results from the first year of the A-level programme.

Year 11 pupils will pick up their GCSE results on Thursday next week.

Connexions Berkshire provides information, advice and guidance to 13-19 year-olds and up to 25 for people with learning difficulties or disabilities to help them find education, employment or training.

Also, Directions will hold a drop-in session from 10am-3pm on Friday next week at the youth centre at Charters School in Charters Road, Sunningdale.
