BUSINESSES say long queues to a nearby rubbish tip are severely hitting their trade.
Traders based in Longshot Lane, Bracknell, near the Re3 Household Waste and Recycling Centre say the problem is especially bad because there has been sunshine after a spell of bad weather, because residents start clearing out their gardens and homes.
Mahendra Wijesinghe, manager of the Acorn Cafe, said in the worst instance on Monday, a customer reported it took him an hour and 15 minutes to get through.
The waste centre is run by Re3, a partnership between Reading, Bracknell and Wokingham Borough Councils and company FCC Environment.
Re3 spokesman Oscar Mortali said the busy period was due to the dry and warm weather following the wet spell and added: "We apologise to local business for the obvious inconvenience this may have caused and expect this spike in visits will fall to normal levels shortly."
Steve Loudoun, Bracknell Forest Council's chief officer for environment and public protection, said changes have been made at the waste and recycling site to try to reduce queuing times.

I wait untill I have at least 14 black bin bags full of garden waste before taking it to the tip. Seems less costly than paying the new charge, probably more so in future years, as I am sure that BFC will increase the annual charge. They 'conned' us into buying the brown bins so that we would not put garden waste into the green bin, by not charging for collection. Then wacked on the charge once they had sufficient 'punters'.
No doubt fortnightly collections of all bins increases the amount of visits to the waste site.

I agree 100% with everything the Crowman has just said. In this beautiful hot sunshine that we have waited so long for I would love to have my windows open, but my Green bin which is kept out the front stinks so much at the moment, that I can not stand the smell coming into the house. I hate to think what it will be like come Tuesday when the bin will be emptied. I have a good mind to put it all in a couple of large bin bags and run it up the tip myself.. I wonder if it would get a deduction in my Council tax if I did that!!!! Bring back weekly Green bin collections, I dont mind waiting 2 weeks for the recycling bins
