YOUNGSTERS took a walk on the wild side and were rewarded for their efforts in a competition.

Brothers Alex and Harry Novelle created a sensory wildlife garden at Wooden Hill Primary School, Bracknell.

The Do Something for Wildlife competition was organised by BBOWT (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust).

The pair were presented with their award by explorer and TV presenter Steve Backshall last Wednesday.

He told them: "You're on a wonderful wild journey and this could be the turning point in your life." The garden features herbs such as sage, mint and bergamot. Youngsters from Slough were also rewarded for creating a wildlife haven in their garden.

Together the winners were introduced to an alligator snapping turtle, Burmese python and barn owl at the award ceremony.
