Arrests made in police drink-drive campaign
Published: 19 Jun 2012 16:30
The campaign, launched by Thames Valley Police on June 1, is aimed at targeting drink and drug-drivers over the summer months and there have so far been 92 arrests in the Thames Valley.
In total, 53 of the 92 arrested have been charged, with 22 bailed and 17 released with no further action.
Superintendent Chris Brown, head of roads policing for Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police, said: "If you choose to drink and drive - and it is a choice - you face a driving ban, up to £5,000 in fines and a criminal record.
"There is no excuse for drink driving and our message is simple; don't do it. It's not worth the risk."
Of those arrested, 70 were men (76%) and 22 were women (24%) and the average age was 34.
This year's campaign shows a 45% decrease on the 168 arrests made during the same period in 2011.
