AN appeal has been launched to raise 12,000 to fund solar panels at a thriving community centre.
Wokingham's Corner-stone community centre in Norreys Avenue, which is run by All Saints, Church, has been granted permission to install 40 solar panels which cost 24,000.
The All Saints Carbon Reduction Project has applied for a grant from EDF for half of the funding leaving the group to raise the remainder.
The solar panels will reduce the centre's bills and will generate funding from the feed-in-tariff - which is a payment for all the electricity that is produced.
Tamzin Evershed, one of the leaders of the project, said: "We think having solar panels on the community centre is very important because we are making a bold statement to the community about the environment." More than 3,000 has already been raised by the congregation of All Saints Church and the organisation of fundraising activities is being encouraged.
