IT IS the last chance to nominate someone for this year's Pride of Bracknell Awards before the final deadline on Tuesday.

The award categories recognise a whole range of achievements - from children's bravery to making a difference through education or inspiring others.

The judges are particularly keen to hear of outstanding environmental work; cheery shop workers or others in retail who go above and beyond; employees who volunteer their time to make a difference, perhaps by organising staff fundraising events, and businesses that make a fantastic difference to their community.

Helen Barnett, marketing manager at Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, lead sponsor of the awards, said: "There are only a few days left to nominate your local heroes.

"Perhaps there is someone working in one of the town's retail or leisure outlets that really goes that extra mile whenever you enter their premises? Is there someone who goes that extra mile to make your day that little bit easier? Or maybe it is a simple smile and friendly word that lifts your day?

"Whatever your reasons, why not take the time to visit www.bracknellnews.co.uk/prideofbracknell to let us know who is your Retail Hero."

The awards are also supported by the News and Bracknell & Wokingham College - which is hosting the awards ceremony - and local businesses.

The News's editor, Simon Williams, said: "There are so many dedicated people and groups who make our community what it is - but don't assume that someone else will nominate them. It only takes two minutes to show your appreciation for what they do."

All nominations will go to a panel of judges who will then have the hard task of drawing up a shortlist of nominees to be invited to the awards ceremony on Friday, April 27, when this year's winners will be revealed.

The categories are: Community Volunteer Hero (Young Community Volunteer, Adult Commu-nity Volunteer and a Group category); My Hero; Retail Hero; Sporting Champion; Education Champion; Child of Courage; Environmental Hero; Employee Hero (Good Corporate Citizen and Employee Volunteer) and a Special Award may be presented at the judges' discretion.

The deadline to nominate someone by text is tomorrow (Friday) and Tuesday, April 10, by entry form, which can be found in the News or at www.bracknellnews.co.uk/prideofbracknell

It only takes a couple of minutes to fill out contact details and up to 100 words on why you are nominating the person.
