Romans moving home
AN ESTATE agents is building a new office during its 25th anniversary year.
Construction workers for Romans Estate Agents have started work on a former car park site in Bracknell town centre to the east of The Ring and next to the Old Manor pub.
Peter Coles, Romans group managing director, said: "As Bracknell is where we first laid foundations for our company's growth and success, we're delighted that our investment in stunning new premises will play a part in Bracknell's regeneration story.
"The fact that this will take place in our 25th anniversary year seems especially fitting."
The estate agents is currently based nearby in The Broadway but will move to the new 1,700sq ft branch office once it is finished - which is due to be by November.
Helen Barnett, marketing manager for Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, which is spearheading the town's regeneration, said: "With the opening of the new Waitrose store, the new Romans office and the news that Winchester Houses looks likely to be redeveloped, the regeneration is certainly gaining momentum.
"We also hope to have some significant landmarks to announce in the Spring."
As previously reported in the News, developer Comer Homes has said it intends to submit a planning application by April to replace derelict Winchester House, the former 3M building, with 311 apartments and a shopping mall.

Report commentWhilst waiting for a friend near the bandstand on Saturday, a couple of well dressed ladies walked towards me from the direction of Princess Square. Each was carrying a couple of smart looking shopping bags which I can only assume contained purchases from one of the consessions in Bentalls. They looked right, up the High Street towards the banks, then left, down the High Street towards the Bentalls main entrance. As they continued on towards The Broadway, one lady said to the other "surely, there must be more down here". I did have to laugh.
Walking through The Broadway is like walking through a war zone during a ceasefire. Most units are boarded up, empty or charity shops. I hope Romans moving to a new office from their current location on the Broadway heralds the arrival of demolition crews.
It needn't cost the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership a thing. Just put an advert in the Bracknell News for volunteers. I would imagine half the borough will gladly chip in with sledge hammers, pick axes and shovels. I'd be there!

Report commentWhat will happen to 'Little Harrods' (New Price Warehouse) - thats gonna take a lot of time to move all their gear!
I dont think anything will change when they still have loads of shops open down there, Icelands, 99P Store etc etc.
I hope Bracknell moves forward!
