HARRY Potter and an Oompa Loompa were among a host of literary folk at a primary school when pupils dressed up as their favourite book and film characters.

Wildridings Primary School in Netherton held the day to celebrate the end of a successful book and film week aimed at inspiring children to enjoy reading and create their own stories.

Headteacher Julia Evans said: "We have had a fabulous response from the children. They've been very motivated and very excited and enthusiastic about their writing activities over the week. We are very pleased with the results."

Throughout the week beginning October 17, children took part in drama, making films, reading, and writing stories. On the Thursday, author and former primary school teacher Antony Lishak visited each year group to talk about his books including Clickety-Clack Something to Pack and Coming Round, as well as engaging pupils in fun activities and encouraging them to turn their own experiences into writing.

The fancy dress day on the Friday started with an assembly and a catwalk to show off the spectacular costumes.

Pupils then talked about what they had been working on over the week, were presented with prizes for the competitions and watched staff perform Snow White and the Four Dwarves, a shortened adaption of the classic Disney tale.
