ONE of history's most famous fires was re-created in a dramatic playground demonstration.
Year 2 children at Harmans Water Primary School made their own ‘city' of London, which recreated Tudor houses that burned down in the 1666 Great Fire of London, and these were set alight on Thursday, December 4.
Deputy headteacher Lynsey Johns said the fire was started in just one cardboard house, with the high wind helping to spread flames quickly, just as had happened in 1666.
Ms Johns added: "Many of the children came up to me afterwards and said it was an experience they will always remember.
"There was quite a lot of empathy for the people who lived in the houses at the time and the children were saying that they didn't want their own house to burn down."
The activity was part of a project which concentrated on the geography of London, its history and the buildings it has.
