THE former site of Garth Hill College will be converted into housing after the council approved the plans.

Iceni Projects applied to Bracknell Forest Council for approval to demolish the buildings at the site and replace them with 89 homes, a mix of houses and flats.

The project involves the installation of 25 per cent affordable homes, including a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes.

The development will consist of 44 three-bed houses, and three four-bed houses, and the rest will be flats.

Six of the dwellings will be one-bed flats, and 14 two-bed flats.

Multiple residents submitted objection comments, with one noting that the proposed development will ruin her ‘spectacular’ view of the town centre.

Mrs Kirsty Hodson, of Avon Grove, wrote: “I would request that this area be left as green space as it currently provides a spectacular view over the town centre (go and have a look at sunrise or sunset!) and this is a view that should belong to everyone.

“Although I am concerned about the extra traffic and parking created by this development, I do not think that this can be fixed by stopping the flow of traffic on Warfield Road with extra traffic lights as other commenters have suggested.

"I believe that it would make the problem far, far worse, in fact. The only way to prevent congestion in the town centre is to allow the traffic to be able to freely leave the town without stopping constantly.”

Robert Sharp, of Shepherds Hill, wrote: “The parking facilities for these vehicles will be inadequate to begin with and there is no scope for future expansion.

"Clement House was built with inadequate parking and this is already having an adverse impact with multiple vehicles parking daily on the cycle path.”

There will be 178 parking spaces developed on the site, equating to exactly two spaces each.
