A FORMER businessman swapped briefcases for electric guitars in order to open up a rock school.

Harmeet Nandra, a former director of a research company, launched The Rock Project Berkshire in 2015, and has now opened up a school in Bracknell.

The 43-year-old intends to get children away from smartphones and video games and get them more involved in making music.

Children don’t have to be as talented as a young Brian May from Queen in order to sign up, as experience is not necessary.

Also, financial capabilities are not an issue.

“We have children from private schools, grammar schools and public schools, and The Rock Project is a place where they all come together and there’s no divide.

“Music brings them together.”

The sessions take place over two hours, with a live group session ending the lesson, building towards a live concert in the summer for family and friends.

Mr Nandra explained the benefits of having opened the school, in particular seeing the children’s joy as they learn.

He said: “We help children and adults feel good about themselves and that’s an amazing thing, and to empower my team to help them fulfil their ambitions.

“Professionally, it’s the most fulfilling thing you can do.

“This was never about making money.

“I wanted to create an environment where children want to come back and to build a brilliant team around me who have enabled that to happen.”
