THE LEXICON has been branded as ‘disgusting’ after it failed to contact the police following a sexual assault in the town centre.

A teenage girl was walking in The Lexicon when a man approached her from behind.

The man attempted to engage her in conversation before making inappropriate remarks about her body. He grabbed her in a hug and attempted to kiss her mouth while she struggled away from him.

The young girl was able to get away and alert The Lexicon’s security team, who did not contact police.

The girl’s mother spoke exclusively to The News about the incident.
She said: “It was not until she got home that we actually spoke to her about what happened and noticed how upset she was.

“She explained everything to us and we called the police, who have been fantastic with us.

“The security at The Lexicon were called and they did not call the police.

“We went to the offices at The Lexicon to try and talk to them, but they never got back to me, despite me leaving my phone number with them.

“They (security) said they had been looking out for the man but they had not found anyone.

“The team has been disgusting.”

Rob Morris, General Manager of The Lexicon, said: “A report was made to The Lexicon’s security team by one of the stores approximately 3-4 hours after the alleged incident.  After an initial investigation, the security team is assisting Thames Valley Police with its enquiries”.
