A brownie leader will be swapping Priestwood for Africa this summer.

Shell Howell, unit leader with 4th Bracknell Brownie Unit, will head to Nakuru, Kenya, with a group of guide leaders from across the South West.

Ms Howell will be volunteering in schools, and will be assisting teachers along with pupils in classes of more than 60 children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

One aspect of the trip will be a visit to a nearby slum located on a rubbish tip, which is unfortunately where some of the pupils at the school live.

The two week trip is organised by African Adventures, which provides humanitarian and financial support to a number of educational projects and schools.

Ms Howell, who works as a Nursery Practitioner said: “This is a completely new experience for me as I'm not used to travelling.

"I work with young children in a nursery but working with older children in such a large class is going to be very different.

"I'm looking forward to the whole trip and can't wait to take part in all the new experiences."
