TRAFFIC misery is set to continue as roadworks have been extended beyond schedule.

South East Water has announced the project along Opladen Way and Harmans Water Road will carry on, meaning further traffic delays are in store for motorists.

The £450,000 scheme to secure water supplies to customers in Bracknell has been extended due to ‘good progress’ being made on site.

Matthew Cooper, Project Manager at South East Water, said: “We know roadworks can be frustrating but we will be working as quickly as possible.

“We hope local residents, businesses and motorists will understand that doing this work now while we are in the area will minimise disruption in the future.

“We expect to finish the additional work along Opladen Way by late June and after this, we will need to complete our final piece of work between the roundabout near to Bracknell Leisure Centre and the double roundabout in Harmans Water Road for approximately four weeks.”

South East Water has been laying a 1.4-kilometre pipeline along Opladen Way and Harmans Water Road since October 2016.

The new pipeline will allow the water company to move large volumes of water around its underground network of pipes in the area with the next phase of the work to start on Tuesday, May 30.

The scheme forms part of the company’s £424m investment programme between 2015 and 2020.

Mr Cooper added: “This additional section of work was due to take place later this year. Due to the good progress made on site and to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and motorists, we plan to carry out this work while we are already in the area.

“The safety of the public and our workforce is our number one priority when we carry out work and to keep everyone safe a rolling road closure will be in place between the junctions of Helmsdale and Queens Pine.”
