I would to present myself as your choice for Bracknell's Member of Parliament on the 8th of June. Like all the residents of Bracknell, I have often voted for the main political parties only to discover that it really does not make a difference. What we need is an MP who represents Bracknell in Westminster but more importantly an MP who lives and understands the local community while working very closely with the council who have made tremendous effort to regenerate the area over the last few years.

I support building a new modern hospital at Heatherwood and a plan to care for the elderly, who have completed their hospital treatment and just need a halfway house to recuperate with some independence before getting back into the community. GPs need to be supported with infrastructure and modern secure technology to do their work caring for the community.

GP services need to be closely integrated with Heatherwood. The Heathspace is below expectation and Wexham a long way off. The chief executive of Frimley, Sir Morris, has a great plan for Heatherwood. There is the potential to create local jobs. Hardworking people do not want to be off sick even for a few days and the NHS has to work for them, as they do pay their National Insurance.

My focus will also be to attract businesses that can create employment in the town and immediate surroundings of Bracknell. Communities who earn a living locally should not have to commute (time & cost) long distances for work and be able to afford homes in and around Bracknell. Businesses can pay workers much more. We can also crowdfund from the local community to have shares in business and share in the profits of commercial and house building and other profits from local companies. High taxes do not work for either individuals or corporate companies. We just need employment and good wages.

We can use the normal corporation taxes from business and employees to fund local schools, hospitals, and register these as charitable trusts to claim back the taxes we all pay to the Central government. We can start living as a community where we plan and use our own resources to attract investment into the region. We can make it easier by providing affordable accommodation and easy acess to attract resources and businesses that create employment.

I support the neighbourhood development plan where residents will have a say where new homes will be built by working with the planners on roads/ infrastructure and alongside those who have land to offer. We need affordable housing.

Instead of a pension we can encourage employees to contribute to buying their own homes. This can only happen if they get decent wages… not just the "living/ survival” wage. It's pointless contributing to a pension that has no value when you retire. At least you can sell your home and move into a smaller place or pass it onto your family. We can get corporations to help with shared ownership for their employees and create a fund for this.

We have to support controlled immigration for public service jobs and encourage the European Union to reform as we re-engage with it. I believe we can make a success out of Brexit.... but more importantly of our local community by trading with the EU and rest of the world. I do not belive in handing out benefits for economic migration. Those that immigrate here can support their stay just as the British nationals support their stay abroad in the EU.

We can make Bracknell a better place by change at local level. Please contact me on my facebook page “Bracknell in Westminster”, email me on oliviobarreto@hotmail.com or you can find me on the Winfield Parish Website. Please make contact and let me know what your top 10 priorities are. I cannot afford to print leaflets and visit each and everyone of you.... but I can listen to your concerns and suggestions on how we can all unite to make a change at community level.

I have been in Bracknell over 17 years and continue to work as a financial and management consultant with international and government organisations as well as with businesses in the private sector. I am a local parish councillor in Winkfield. I am married and have close family and friends in Bracknell. I take a keen interest in politics, social and economic issues both nationally and globally. I do not support one party. I enjoy travelling, music, gardening, affordable wines and a good read. I always spend my summer holidays in the UK.
