A DEMENTIA charity is calling on residents to take part in Dementia Awareness Week.

Bracknell Forest Council is joining forces with Alzheimer’s Society to unite against dementia this Dementia Awareness Week.

Bracknell Forest Dementia Action Alliance and Berkshire Heathcare Foundation Trust will also be involved in encouraging residents to take part in Dementia Awareness Week which runs from May 14-20.

Viki Rowland, Dementia Action Alliance Coordinator for Alzheimer’s Society in Bracknell Forest, said: “We’re calling on people in Bracknell to show their support at Princess Square Shopping Centre this Dementia Awareness Week.

“Dementia doesn’t care who you are; it could affect us all. It’s set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer, with someone developing it every three minutes, and so many people are facing it alone.

“People with dementia often feel misunderstood, marginalised and isolated but with the right support and understanding they can continue to live fulfilling lives and make a contribution to their communities. So, unite with us now and join us on Monday, May 15.”

On Monday, May 15 between 10am and 4pm staff and volunteers will be holding an information event at Princess Square Shopping Centre to raise awareness of dementia and think about how they could be more dementia friendly.

Dancing Robots will be in attendance, along with a ukulele group performance and a dementia advice drop-in service. Bracknell Forest Council Mayor Councillor Tony Virgo will open the event at 10am and Bracknell Town Council Mayor Councillor Clive Harrison will be closing the event.

There are 1,128 people are living with dementia in Bracknell and Alzheimer’s Society is offering support for anyone affected by dementia.
