COMMUTERS are set to face further travel misery as more waterworks take place.

South East Water will begin planned work in Warfield next week where temporary traffic light will be in operation.

The company says that the work is an ‘essential project’ and will see a new section of pipe laid in Warfield.

Matthew Cooper, Project Manager at South East Water, said: “The safety of motorists and our workforce is our top priority when carrying out work which is why traffic lights will be in place while we complete this work.

“We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating which is why we have been working closely with the local highways department to keep traffic flowing through the area and keep disruption to a minimum.

“We expect this work to take approximately two weeks to complete but our contractor will be working as safely and quickly as possible to complete this work.”

South East Water insists that the temporary traffic lights are a necessity to ensure public safety and keep traffic moving while the work is carried out.

The £14,000 project comes as part of the company’s £424m investment programme between 2015 and 2020 and will improve the capacity of the local water network as the community grows.

Work on the scheme, which will see a new 18-metre section of pipe laid along Warfield Street at the crossroads with Osborne Lane and Newell Green, will begin on Monday 8 May and is expected to take two weeks to complete.

Mr Cooper added: “I would like to apologise for the disruption this work will cause but hope motorists and the local community understand the long term benefits this scheme will deliver.”
