DRIVERS are set for more travel misery as South East Water continues a scheme to lay a new section of pipe in the centre of Bracknell in May.

As part of a £60,000 project, which will improve the capacity of the underground water network, South East Water carried out work to lay a new 270-metre section of pipe in Skimped Hill Lane, Bracknell in October 2016.

The water company now needs to complete the final phase of this work which will see the remainder of the new water main laid towards the Western Roundabout and crossing onto the B3408.

Work on the final phase is planned to start on Monday (May 1) and is expected to take four weeks to complete.

Matthew Cooper, project manager at South East Water, said: “Safety is our number one priority. To keep motorists and our workforce safe while we lay this new section of main, phased lane closures will be in place on the Western Roundabout when we cross into the B3408.

“We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating which is why we have been working closely with the highways department at Bracknell Forest Council to keep traffic flowing through the town centre and keep disruption to a minimum.”

Matthew continued: “We expect this work to take approximately four weeks to complete but our contractor will be working as safely and quickly as possible to complete this work as soon as possible.

“I would like to apologise for the disruption this work will cause but hope the local community understand the long term benefits this scheme will deliver.”
