THE long-lost owners of a bronze medal discovered in a Headington garden over 30 years ago are being traced.
Sue Plucknett, from the Oxford suburb, first stumbled on the hidden treasure while gardening and has hold of it all these years - but now wants to see it reunited with its rightful owner or their descendants.
The dusty medal, believed to be bronze, has the words 'Education Committee Berkshire' engraved on one side, with the image of a deer in woodland, while the other side, shows a mother surrounded by children, with the inscription 'Never absent, never late'.
On the rim is the name Gladys Plummer.
Speaking to the News, Sue said: "I'm 68 now and as I am getting older, I think I can't just throw it away as it must be sentimental for someone.
"There used to be a work house on the site of my home and it was then turned into a nursing home so I think someone must have lost it, which is quite sad really.
"It would be great to find the descendants of the family, I am a bit of a sentimentalist anyway and it's not something I would pass down to my children because why would they want it?"
Sue contacted the Berkshire Record Office and was able to establish that 13-year-old Gladys May Plummer, was the daughter of Charles and Caroline Plummer, who lived at Plamslade Lodge in Bracknell.
Do you know the owners of the medal?
