A MAN arrested in connection with the death of a Bracknell grandfather has been released without charge.

The 24-year-old man from Chelmsford was arrested following the death of Keith King, 57, from Bracknell, outside Broomfield Parish Hall on July 30 last year.

However, Essex Police has now released him without charge.

A woman was also assaulted at the scene outside an engagement party at the village hall and taken to hospital where she was treated for a suspected broken nose.

Mr King was known as known as ‘Kingy’ to his friends and as ‘Roast Beef’ by his family.

In a statement following his death, his family said: "Keith was a family man through and through. He was a devoted husband, supportive dad and a loving granddad to seven beautiful children.

"He was a caring son who thought the world of his mum and dad. He would visit his mum having Friday night bearing fish and chips and had a shared delight in horseracing with his dad. They both liked to have a flutter on any horse with a ‘King’ connection. He was a brother, an uncle and a loyal mate.”

Keith was a hard working painter and decorator who had many passions in life including supporting Crystal Palace, cycling and taking part in charity events – especially cycling ones.

One of his daily pleasures was to walk his faithful companion Bramble, a golden Labrador, who he described as his ‘over-sized lap dog’.

The family added: "He was a generous, loving and committed family man who was adored by everybody who knew him. He always looked forward to spending time with family and friends.”

Matthew Stanton, spokesman for Essex Police, said: "A man arrested following the death of a man in Broomfield, Chelmsford on Saturday, July 30, has been released from his bail and will face no further police action in relation to the matter.

"Keith King aged 55, from Bracknell in Berkshire, died in the car park of Broomfield Parish Hall in Main Road minutes before midnight.

"A 24-year-old man from Chelmsford was arrested shortly afterwards.

"Following extensive police enquiries and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service a decision has taken that no criminal proceedings will be forthcoming."
