TRADING standards have warned residents not to give out their details to a fraudster making scam calls claiming to be from Bracknell Forest Council.
A number of people in the borough have reported receiving calls claiming to be from Bracknell Forest Council or Bracknell Borough Council.
The cold caller requests personal details and even national insurance numbers stating it is in relation to an accident the resident or their family member have been involved with.
However, Bracknell Forest Council would not ask for personal information over the phone.
The number most commonly used is 0203 282222, but another number which reported is 0207 9556371.
Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection, said: “Thank you to those residents who have reported this particular scam so we are made aware of it and so can alert all our residents and work to protect the wider community.
“If you are asked for any personal details over by the phone by a caller claiming to be from Bracknell Forest Council, ignore it. They will not be a council employee. The council would never ask for such details over the phone.”
If you are concerned about a call you have received or feel you have fallen victim to this scam please contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or the Citizens Advice service on 03444 111 306 for further advice.
