A HOUSING Association in Bracknell has joined a national campaign to provide secure and independent homes.

Bracknell Forest Homes is taking part in the ‘Start at Home’ initiative which will provide sheltered housing and refuge for people fleeing domestic violence, supported housing for those at risk of homelessness and people with disabilities.

They are a charitable housing association who own and manage more than 6000 tenanted properties in Bracknell.

The National Housing Association (NHA) and Bracknell Forest Homes are trying to ensure that funding will be available for people who need extra support and homes that meet their needs.

Funding for the ‘Start at Home’ campaign is currently being reviewed by the government.

Linda Wells, housing and community services Director at Bracknell Forest Homes, said: “Our supported housing schemes are very important to our local communities.

“We provide good quality housing where people can live independently but have the reassurance of the support and security they need.”

She added: “Not only does supported housing benefit our customers and our community, but also benefits the public purse by helping to promote, maintain and improve health and well-being of residents.”

June Boyle moved into Liscombe House at Bracknell Forest Housing, after a fire caused by TV electrical fault destroyed her bungalow.

She said: “It’s safe and secure, which is very important as you get older. The schemes are well maintained, in good locations and have absolutely everything you need.”

David Orr, Chief Executive of NHA, said: “Supported housing provides a safe and secure home that helps people to live independently and to achieve their aspirations.

“That’s why we launched the ‘Start at Home’ campaign to show the government why it’s a crucial part of the housing fabric.”
