A TECHNO music festival has been given the go ahead for this weekend after organisers tackled concerns over noise pollution for nearby residents.

Varkala Festival will take over Park View Farm in Old Wokingham Road from Friday night to Sunday night this weekend with a mix of soul, funk and techno house music playing until 11pm each night.

A temporary event notice previously submitted by festival organisers was rejected in June after Bracknell Forest Council's environmental health team raised concerns about 'thumping music' being played until 2am each night.

However, festival director Jamie Bowkett says they have addressed the concerns "robustly" and will welcome 400 camping festival-goers on August 12 and 13.

He said: "We're so pleased to have received confirmation that our application for Varkala Festival 2016 has been approved by the council, thanks to having robustly addressed any concerns around potential noise levels in the area.

"We have an amazing team in place, with a huge amount of expertise between us, to pull off what we believe will be a unique music festival experience; and we’re thrilled that Bracknell Forest Council has recognised the sheer volume of work that has gone into this year's planning.

"After some back and fourth, we’re chuffed that everyone will be able to book their tickets safe in the knowledge that Varkala Festival is 100 per cent confirmed to go ahead."

Billed as a "brand new, intimate festival", its promotional material says it will create an "exploratory and transcendent atmosphere".

Music at the site will stop at 11pm after the council specified conditions in order for the festival, tickets at £79 per person, to go ahead.

Vincent Paliczka, director of environment, culture and communities said: "A second temporary event notice has been received allowing the Varkala Festival to go ahead.

"With our residents in mind, the music will now be finished by 11pm each night, earlier than 2am as initially proposed, and the organisers will be monitoring throughout the event to ensure noise levels comply with national guidelines. The music may be audible in the surrounding area but should not be excessively loud."
