AN elderly man is in hospital after being struck by a car in Bracknell on Friday night.

The accident happened at around 9pm at a zebra crossing outside Crown Wood Primary School in Opladen Way.

The pedestrian, a man in his eighties, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, where he remains in a serious, but stable condition.

Police and a fire crew from Bracknell Fire Station attended the scene which followed a collision between a white Vauxhall Corsa and the man at around 11pm.

Fire crews were called to help the woman out of her vehicle, and both she and the pedestrian were taken to hospital.

The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was treated in hospital for minor injuries and has since been discharged.

The accident happened close to the Crown Wood public house, and Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Thomas Grant, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: “An investigation in to the circumstances of the collision is currently ongoing.

It is believed another car, which was possibly blue or black, and was travelling in the opposite direction to the Vauxhall Corsa, may have stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross the road.

“We would like to speak to the occupants of this car as they may have vital information which could assist the investigation. I would also like to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police.”

Anyone with any information about the collision should contact investigating officer PC Mark Harris, from Roads Policing based in Taplow, via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.

Following the incident, a 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while above the alcohol level. She was released on bail until September 8.
