A CANINE search and rescue charity and two schools are the latest causes to benefit from Bracknell’s recycling funding scheme.

The volunteer-run Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs received a cheque for £623 which will let them continue using specially trained dogs help emergency services find missing children and vulnerable adults.

Jon Chapman, from Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs, said: “We’re very grateful to Bracknell Forest Council and Suez for this extra funding boost and of course to the residents who donated their recycling points so generously; you will certainly make a difference and help people in need of our services.”

Warfield Primary School’s Environment Club will be given £248 to help refurbish their environmental area and £129 will go to Sandy Lane Primary School to improve it’s outdoor activity space.

The funds come from Bracknell Forest’s recycling rewards scheme which gives residents the chance to use their unwanted recycling reward points to vote for organisations to receive a share of a £1,000 pot provided by the borough council.

Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes MBE, executive member for the environment, said: “We’re delighted to be able to help these very worthy projects through the efforts of our residents recycling correctly.

“I hope members of the recycling rewards scheme in Bracknell Forest are as generous with their points in the next round of donations as they have been already with so many previous good causes.

“I would also like to thank residents for their continued efforts to recycle more. By doing this, the council spends less on sending waste to landfill, freeing up that money to be spent on other services.”

The next three causes looking to benefit form the scheme are St Michael’s Easthampstead CE Primary School, which is looking to overhaul the existing garden area into an outdoor classroom, the 4th Ascot Brownies who are hoping to raise funds for a trip to Switzerland’s World Guide Centre, and Youthline UK who are raising funds to keep offering free face to face counselling for youngsters in the borough.
