THE family of a 21-year-old man who died after a life-long battle against cystic fibrosis last year will tackle a 65km walk in his memory this Saturday.

Jamie Fuller, from Warfield, trained as a gym instructor and even took on a job at Legoland Windsor despite relying on oxygen 24/7 due to his illness, and mum Bridget Collier said he ‘never gave up’ despite his difficulties.

By October 2015 he was placed on an urgent waiting list and underwent a double-lung transplant just a few days later, a milestone surgery which was hoped to extend his life by more than 10 years.

However, complications hit and after five further operations Jamie was taken off life-support and passed away.

Now, his family and friends are set to take on the momentous 65km (40-mile) ‘Great Strides’ walk across Surrey this weekend in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Mum Bridget said he had ‘so much character, caused so much mischief, he enriched so many lives’ and says the walk will be tough but worth the effort.

She said: “It’s going to be really hard on the day because we are all wearing T-shirts with his face on.

“It’s been really tough but we have got to keep going.”

Jamie passed away just seven days after the first surgery.

Bridget added: “We thought that was going to be it; we thought we were going to have 10 more years with him and we only had seven days.

“It was dreadful.

"I think he would be very proud of us.

“Last weekend we all did a 26-mile walk, we did part of the route we’ll be doing for the CF walk, and it was really hard, lots of cambers and overgrown areas.”

The Great Strides walk starts and finishes near Guildford, taking in North Downs Way, Greensand Way and the Devil’s Punchbowl.
