WORK to refurbish Coral Reef Waterworld will finally get going after the council approves new contractors to undertake the work.
Bracknell Forest Council’s executive will be recommended to endorse the signing of the main works and aquatics contracts for the project when it meets on Tuesday, 10 May.
If the proposals are approved by the executive, the decision to proceed with the project would need to be agreed at a full council meeting on Wednesday, 18 May.
The proposed year-long, £12m project will result in five superb, brand new flume rides being installed within a new flume tower.
A replacement roof over the main pool hall is planned, with repair work to other areas of the roofing at the complex undertaken too.
Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, public protection and corporate services, said: “Coral Reef Waterworld rightly has a superb reputation as one of the premier leisure facilities in the region with a dedicated visitor base which spans the generations. This is a reputation which has been built and maintained over the past quarter of a century.
“Naturally, after more than 25 years of service, areas of the building require replacement and repair work, most notably to the roofing, as well as preventative maintenance to other key equipment on the site."
Since it opened in October 1989, Coral Reef Waterworld has welcomed an estimated 10 million customers.
