A MEETING which could have shed more light on the proposal to close Edgbarrow Sports Centre has been postponed by the council.

Due to meet on Wednesday, February 10, the meeting of the Edgbarrow and Sandhurst Sports Centre Management Committee is now likely to take place in March to allow more time for consultation feedback to be considered.

The decision to delay the meeting was made by the committee chairman and Crowthorne councillors.

When the committee finally does meet it is expected there will be more definite proposals available over how the site will be managed after the closure of the centre during the day was announced at the end of last year.

Katherine Simpson, a Bracknell Forest Council officer, said: "It will allow a little more time to consider user feedback from the consultation meeting planned for February 2 and discussions with the school to be concluded.

"This should allow firm written proposals to be produced covering how the Edgbarrow Sports Centre will be managed to provide ongoing community access to the Edgbarrow school site."

Users of the sports centre were told of the proposals to close the sports centre to the public during the day in a letter published late last year.

The proposal was made in attempts to give Edgbarrow Secondary School more room for their students to have drama and PE lessons as pupil numbers continue to rocket.

However it has been met with dismay from the centre's users who say the daytime classes will be much missed

A new time, date and location for the meeting will be published as soon as it's set.
