Bracknell Forest Council have been slammed by their neighbouring council after a three week road closure left motorists 'frustrated and angry.'

A stretch of Winkfield Road was shut on Tuesday, November 3, sending motorists on a six mile diversion.

The closure, between the Squirrel Roundabout junction with North Street, and the Legoland Roundabout will last until Saturday November 21.

Now the neighbouring Royal Borough Of Windsor and Maidenhead has lashed out saying it is 'disappointing' Bracknell Forest Council hadn't listened to concerns over the traffic impact.

Cllr Colin Rayner, cabinet member for highways and transport, in Windsor, said: “We are extremely disappointed that Bracknell Forest Borough Council has gone ahead with these works without further attempts to mitigate the impact on traffic in the area.

"We have asked to meet Bracknell Forest officers and members this weeks and last week to try and improve the road diversion signage. They have refused.

Bracknell Forest Council's update on the road closure.

“We appreciate this is an incredibly busy area of Windsor and we are as frustrated and angry as our residents, businesses and visitors are by this.

“Our officers have been working hard to communicate the message about these roadworks and the road closure to our residents and visitors and it is disappointing that Bracknell Forest have failed to acknowledge residents’ concerns and fears.”

Cllr Chris Turrell, executive member for planning and transport on Bracknell Forest, said their team had regularly met the Royal Borough to discuss the essential culvert work on Winkfield Road.

He said: “Concerns regarding working hours were not raised by Royal Borough during the planning stage. Any extra working would be subject to operator availability and safety considerations and we are discussing this with our contractors. We will continue to do what we can to minimise disruption to residents and road users caused by this very necessary work.”

Once the initial closure has finished a further three weeks of partial closures, with traffic lights are expected to continue until December.

The works began as Bracknell Forest Council warned motorists the drainage culverts under under the road were close to collapse.
