BURGLARS who smashed their way into a Bracknell house and stole a silver coloured medal are being hunted by police.
The polar medal was awarded to the victim by the queen after their involvement in an Antarctic expedition in the 1950s. It was stolen from a house in Warfield Road.
The octagonal medal is attached to a white ribbon and engraved with 'Antarctic 1952' with the initals 'B Hunt' around the edge.
Investigating Officer, Det Con Alex Hillan, said: “I am appealing for anyone with information about this burglary to contact us.
“The medal that was stolen was issued to the victim by the Queen after completing a polar expedition to the Antarctic. This therefore has great sentimental value which outweighs any possible monetary value to be gained from it.
“I would ask anyone who knows about the medal's whereabouts to contact the police so it can be returned to its rightful owner."
The offenders smashed a ground floor window between the morning of Friday, August 7 and 9am on Monday, August 10.
A black box containing documents was also taken during the burglary.
The medal looks similar to that pictured above.
