A WELL-KNOWN landmark in Bracknell will soon be getting a makeover.
The Worlds End footbridge, over the A322 Bagshot Road near the Coral Reef junction, is to be repainted for the first time since it was built in the 1980s.
The work to spruce up the footbridge, which takes pedestrians from Coral Reef Waterworld to Forest Park, will start on Monday, 17 August, and will be carried out by Bracknell Forest Council's highways maintenance team.
They will use around 500 litres of white paint to it its much needed makeover.
The painting team will use cherry pickers to paint the highest parts of the footbridge.
Cllr Chris Turrell, executive member for planning and transport, said: "The repainting work is being done now as part of our ongoing bridge maintenance programme while the Coral Reef junction itself is being upgraded. The M3/M4 corridor improvements are key to ensuring traffic in the borough keeps moving now and as we grow in the future.
"The Worlds End footbridge is one of the gateways to the borough and deserves to look its best but, more importantly, this work will help to extend the life of the bridge."
The work on the central section will take just over two weeks and will require off-peak lane closures.
The bridge itself will remain open to pedestrians throughout the work and maintenance team members will be on site to help people wanting to use the crossing.
