A Bracknell man who tried to steal money from a KFC drive-through has been jailed.

Ryan McLaughlan, of Boole Heights, was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday, June 15 after pleading guilty to three counts of burglary - one at a KFC in Bagshot Road and the others in two Hilton Hotels.

The 26-year-old was first caught on CCTV trying to force open the till in the drive-through room of KFC at 11.42pm on March 3 earlier this year, he left empty-handed after being confronted by a member of staff.

He later attempted to steal from the Hilton Hotel in Bagshot Road in the early hours of May 14, damaging a window and moving a CCTV camera, but ran away before the police arrived.

Around half an hour later the same night, at 3.30am, McLaughlan entered a ground-floor room at the Hilton Hotel, St Anne's Manor in London Road, Wokingham while a man in his forties was asleep.

He stole an iphone, ipad, bank cards, clothing and a passport before escaping through the window.

Speaking following the sentencing investigating officer Det Con Alex Hillan, from Bracknell police station, said: “McLaughlan accepted his role in entering a hotel room and stealing items when the victim was still asleep.

“The judge highlighted the significant impact of this offence on the victim and the other similar matters. McLaughlan had a previous conviction for burglary at the Hilton Hotel in Bracknell, meaning this is the second time the hotel has been a victim of McLaughlan’s.

“This sentence should act as a strong deterrent to any potential offenders in Bracknell that Thames Valley Police takes reports of burglaries seriously and makes every effort to bring offenders to justice.”
