The Ministry of Defence has recognised Bracknell Forest Council’s backing of the reserve and armed forces with a ‘supportive employer’ award.

The award was granted for the support the council gives service men and women as an employer and the help it offers wounded or sick personnel and veterans. The council has also been recognised for striving to improve the lives of the spouses of those in the armed forces.

Council leader and member for community cohesion, Cllr Paul Bettison, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised as a supporter of armed forces personnel. It’s very important that our service men and women and their partners, do not feel at a disadvantage.” The council have worked with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to establish a Civilian-Military Partnership which promotes a better quality of life for the armed forces and their families and to help improve integration for service personnel into civilian life.

The council will now be listed as a registered supportive employer on the SaBRE (supporting Britain’s reservists and employers) website.
