The sausages – which the butchery has sold since 1931 – use only free range meat, herbs and natural casings and were analysed by a panel of experts before being given the prestigious award.

They were judged by the Guild of Fine Food on taste, quality and content, and scored highly in all areas.

Owner Nigel Lewis said: “We all knew they were great quality, but this award is just testament to all the hard work from all the team here at Sunningdale.

“They’re a real favourite with all our loyal, local customers and sell really well every week.” The family butchers, established by Mr Lewis’s grandfather, is a favourite of Sir Bruce Forsyth and Sir Kenneth Branagh.

Lewis of Sunningdale was recently accepted into the Q Guild, an elite selection of the top butchers from across the UK. Mr Lewis said: “It’s a great honour. It’s hard to get in to the guild and it’s made up of the 100 best butchers in the country.” Along with its growing profile, Lewis is now offering ‘Cut and Cook’ lessons to those wanting to know more about what goes into their Sunday roast.

The lessons, offered inside the butchers in Chobham Road, teach people about the art of butchery and the perfect way to cook their favourite cuts. For information, visit www.lewismeat.com
