Ascot's 24-hour Relay For Life tomorrow (Saturday)

A UNIQUE charity event which involves a 24-hour walk around Ascot Racecourse will return tomorrow (Saturday).

The Ascot Relay For Life, which raises cash on behalf of Cancer Research UK, will host the annual walk on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20.

The event involves teams of people – which can comprise friends, family members or work colleagues – walking around the track for 24 hours, with each team member taking it in turns to complete a lap.

Each team will also operate a stall throughout the event to raise further cash for the charity. More than 40 teams have already signed up, with groups’ sporting themes including Hawaiian, Christmas, the World Cup and beach party.

It raised £92,000 last year through stall sales and team entry fees, and the Relay’s chairwoman Rose Dalton is proud this year’s teams boast many local representatives.

She said: “It is great to see so many local people taking part this year and there is a real mix of both young and old. It is a fantastic event and when people take part they realise there is nothing else like it.

“Obviously it would be great to see as many teams as possible take part and I would like to encourage as many visitors to come along as there is plenty for them to do as well.”

As well as the stalls, there will also be live music, a tug-of-war competition, Ascot’s Got Talent and a dodgeball tournament.
