Lambrook School has raised the sum for Macmillan Cancer Support, and has already started to add to that total with a sponsored walk on Friday.
Each pupil at the school walked a mile around the school grounds, totalling 500 miles. Last year the annual event raised more than £8,000 and it is hoped that total can be topped this time around.
Some youngsters added to the challenge by taking part in fancy dress, with costumes ranging from a Rubik’s Cube to Simon Cowell.
Jonathan Perry, the school’s headteacher, said: “It’s a deeply sad reality that each and every one of us has been affected by cancer in some way, which is why we are so dedicated to supporting the vital work of the Macmillan nurses. It’s a cause that we return to every single year and we’re very grateful for the generosity of friends and family that support us. Our ethos as a school is all about raising happy, well-rounded but also conscientious children, who recognise the importance of making a difference to the world around them.”
