RESIDENTS were invited to try their hand at learning an instrument for free as part of a national initiative.

Family-run business Handel Pianos in Sunningdale held the ‘learn to play’ day, a national scheme which aims to get more people into music, on Saturday, April 12.

The shop had six visitors throughout the day, who got the chance to try out instruments including a piano, accordion and guitar.

Shop manager Chris Lovell said it was the first time they had taken part and said they were pleased with how it went.

He said: “It went pretty well. We wanted to ease ourselves into it as it was our first one and I think it was a successful day.

“We wanted to get both children and adults more interested in music and we hope we did that. We will be looking to do it again next year as we’d love to continue encouraging people to pick up and learn an instrument.”
