Youngsters in Year Eight at Charters School in Sunningdale took part in the BBC News Report scheme, where they were tasked with covering local, national, international news and sports stories.
The pupils mirrored a journalist’s working day, from the early morning breakfast meeting, through the writing process, to editing film footage and the stories published online.
They interviewed teachers to add depth and a range of perspectives to their work. At the end of the day, their work was published on the BBC website.
Year Eight teacher Chris Rodgers, who was in charge of last month’s news report day at Charters, said: “The students worked extremely hard, learning new skills and developing an independent project while having fun. It was a very successful day; well done to all those involved.”
Year Eight pupil and editor for the day, Summer Jennings, said: “The BBC news day was a really fun opportunity and I really enjoyed it! It was a great experience and improved our ability of English, teamwork and loads of other useful skills.”
